Chapter One of our Cubase Pro 11 New Features video tutorial provides an overview of the course, shows you how to avoid two common download and installation issues, then discusses the new batch processing engine. This allows you to execute multiple mix down and export functions at one time thereby saving redundant processes when generating multiple versions of a project or when creating sets of stems.

Chapter Two runs through several upgrades to the Cubase working environment. These include the addition of global tracks to the key-editor window for both navigation and two-way editing. The new scale assistant makes editing and composing easier for those of us who were absent the day they taught theory in music class. The sampler track has several useful new creative features and editing MIDI CC data has also gotten an upgrade with the addition of Bezier curves.

Chapter Three explores the new multi-band stereo-field enhancer called “Imager”. This plug in gives you precision of multi-band processing applied to your stereo mix. Stereo mixes compete daily with surround and now Ambisonic program material, optimizing the spatial nuance of the tried and true stereo sound-field is more important than ever and Image can make that happen.

Chapter Four covers the new dynamics tools in detail. Cubase Pro 11 introduces Steinberg’s first Dynamic EQ, titled “Frequency”. This allows you to create an equalization curve which reacts to signal level to provide surgical adjustments in real time. The other new dynamics tool is called “Squasher” and it allows you to use the familiar concepts of real time dynamic control in new ways including “upward” compression to bring a new level of sound-sculpting to your mix.

Chapter Five is our big finish and looks at the powerful new spectral analysis and spectral editing tools: SuperVision and Spectral Layers. The supervision metering suite gives you a handy way to build a collection of the most relevant metering tools into a streamlined and easy to manage device. And the addition of Special analysis allows you to see the music the way you hear the music. Then, the Spectral Layers extension converts the waveform editor into a spectrum editor akin to the likes of WaveLab. This can now allow you to un-mix a finished track and separate the vocals and instrumentation into different tracks for remixing. But we go on to show you other more surgical ways to do specific problem solving using the power of spectral editing

The demonstration projects seen in the video are included with your download and each is loaded with additional tips, tricks and procedures baked into the Notepads of each track.

Walt completely explains all the relevant new features in Cubase Pro 11. I am a busy 66 year old producer in Las Vegas and I keep current with music production technics by studying his tutorials like many study a Bible. His tutorials are critical to many careers and this particular tutorial is no exception.

This is the third Cubase tutorial presented by Walt that I’ve purchased from SWA. Need I say more?
